Bea de Visser

Bea de Visser uses photography, film and video to explore the intimacies and complexities of human relationships. Drawing on the genre of feature films and documentaries and borrowing from popular culture, her art is a disturbing and frank portrayal of both personal and universal issues in contemporary Europe.

Bea de Visser has a background that ranges from electro-acoustic music, digital media, painting, photography and sound performance. She has received awards for film, visual art and painting.
Bea de Visser studied at the Academy of Visual Art in Rotterdam and Breda, The Brabants Conservatory, School of Music in Tilburg and stayed a two years residency at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Her films are shown worldwide at the main festivals and venues and her video/ sound based installation works are shown i.e. Museum of Modern Art New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Statens Museum for Kunst Copenhagen, Kunstverein Hamburg. She works in addition as an independent tutor for promising filmmakers and artists who work in the field of the moving image. She has worked i.e. as an advisor for the Dutch Fund of Visual Art, Design and Architecture and The Netherlands Media Art Institute, both in Amsterdam.
